Can I ask my hair stylist for highlights and lowlights at the same time?

yess, my friend has both and got them both done at the same timeCan I ask my hair stylist for highlights and lowlights at the same time?
Absolutely! It looks beautiful. Lowlights are great because it breaks up the blonde of the highlights and actually makes them appear blonder. when done properly, this is beautiful! Your hairdresser will be able to help you decide on a lowlight color that suits your wants and looks great on you. I *completely* disagree with the person that said it looks bad. The only way it looks bad is if the colors used are too far apart from each other. Such as black lowlights and platinum blonde highlights on say brown hair. Can I ask my hair stylist for highlights and lowlights at the same time?
Yes.
yes you can um from a hairstylist opinion tho i don't like the look and you just start mixing too many colors i mean do you really want 3 diffrent colors on your head
well im shure you can but you might have to wait a few weeks

well good luck

What's a good tip to leave a stylist for hair coloring?

I'm going to get my hair colored this Sat at a local salon. I live in a small city, if that has anything to do with it. I've never gotten my hair colored at a salon before. Either me or my mom have done it in the past. I know you generally leave 15-20% tips for servers at resturants. Is it the same for stylists as well?? Thanks!!What's a good tip to leave a stylist for hair coloring?
Hi

In general you should leave at least 10%.. but only leave a tip if she does a good job if not then dont leave any tip.

Give her an amount that you think she deserves. 10% if just Ok and more if she does an amazing job!

XWhat's a good tip to leave a stylist for hair coloring?
Only if the service is great 30%. 20%-30% is what you leave for servers. Stylist do not just serve drinks and food. They are doing something that you cannot do. Show them you appreciate them doing a great job. Believe me just like you remember bad stylist. Stylist remember bad tippers. Actions speak louder than words.
You should leave 10 to 15 percent..15 if they did an awsome job

In Canada how hard is it to get hired as a hair stylist?

Is it flooded? In Canada how hard is it to get hired as a hair stylist?
there is always room for new talent here. If you are looking to work in a reputable high end salon you must have at least 5 years under your belt and multiple educational classes in your portfolio. the pay depends on how much you charge and how much you work. Most salons are paying 50% commission and up, so if you are bringing over $6000 per month the pay is decent and of course the more you bring in service the more you make, Once you have a fully booked requested clientele, bringing in at least $7000 or more a month you can find a chair rental salon and do your own business. Stylists here are not paid by the hour, nor are they salary. In Canada how hard is it to get hired as a hair stylist?
You have to have pretty good training and background education to land a job at a decent salon.

It's not flooded BUT the pay is horrible!

How long does it take to become a hair stylist?

I want to know a few things about becoming a hair stylist...

1. Do I have to attend a 4 year colleng? 2 year? or what?

2. How long does cosmetology school take?

3. how long do you have to be an intern at a nice place, to start earning alot of money?

4. do i even have to attend regular college???

please help, thanks! How long does it take to become a hair stylist?
Each state is different. Check your area for cosmetology schools. If you go full time, my guess is that it shouldn't take more than a year to complete. You don't have to go to a regular college, but depending on your state's requirements, you may have to have completed a certain grade or have a ged or high school diploma. It is up to you if you want to take a job as an assistant after you graduate beauty school. You can go right into a salon without being an assistant if you want...but assisting is not a bad choice either. You will gain a lot of experience and perfect your skills that way. Good luck! Cosmetology is a fun career! How long does it take to become a hair stylist?
depends on what state you live in. i live in ohio and it takes 1500 hours. for my managers license its another 300 hours. So technically 1800. you'll have to look it up for your state.

Tips for becoming a hair stylist?

I recently moved to California and decided I'm going to go to Paul Mitchell the school in Costa Mesa to become a hair stylist. I figured they make good money, theres no uniform, good hours, and being a non gay guy hair stylist would be a plus with all the girls your around. Plus college wasn't my thing, tried it, didn't like it. So I was wondereing if anybody had any tips or advice that would help me.Tips for becoming a hair stylist?
If you did not like it why not try something else.Tips for becoming a hair stylist?

The Paul Mitchell academy is one of the best in the country! You will get top notch training from some of the best stylists in the world. Money is good and now days most places offer health insurance and 401(k). Women LOVE to have a man do their hair! Confidence in yourself and your skills is key. The advice about giving good shampoos is probably the best advice, it is so true! Also, I've worked with a lot of b*tches who are rude to clients, but it is important to remember this-the client that is sitting in your chair may be going to her grandson's graduation, the man's hair you are cutting may be going to his wedding, the woman's hair you are styling may be going to her husband's funeral, so make every one of them feel special, because they are.
oh! Be creative#1.Keep it simple and something the person can do by themselves @ home!theyll come back to you.
practice on all the people that will let you!Don't worry about doing things the same way as everyone else.I use a board under my foil when i do a weaving and people think i know more because no one else did that in my shop(i thought it was just easier)My best advise would be watch other people's mistakes :)
true, money is good, but don't forget you're gonna have to pay medical insurance out of your own pocket, there's not much security for the future unless you're serious and start saving and investing your money now. I've been doing hair for 3 years now. it;s so much fun! my advice to you... don't stop at cosmetology school. after you graduate and receive your license continue taking extra hair classes, go to the hair shows, always keep yourself one step ahead of everyone else. make sure u know the new techniques and know your products. product retail makes you that extra easy money. Sell yourself. be confident but not an ***. and make sure you know how to give a kick-*** shampoo!!! women will fall in love with you, if for nothing else, they will come to have u wash their hair.

  • Is there such thing as a Vaginal Hair Stylist?

Being inquisitive. Is there such thing as a Vaginal Hair Stylist?
Sure. Go to spas, or beauty salons, any place where you can get a wax job. You can get many different styles, from ridding your pubic hair entirely, to shaping it into various styles.

I also have a friend who got a kind of laser thing, where they pull the hairs, supposedly FOREVER. She got it styled into a litte Hitler thing...

There's a million different looks you can sport for your pu.ssy! Is there such thing as a Vaginal Hair Stylist?
    Love this one.

Never met one myself apart from my husband and he is only allowed to style mine.

But i am sure that there will be loads of guys out there offering there services,
I am very skilled in that department. Although I am on holiday at the moment.
hey i dont know but you gave me a good bloody laugh. cheers
Yes, you can spot them by their big lips
You can get different styles including a Brazilian from a beauty therapy shop
Ha ha ha! Bet there is!
Kind of. You mean a person who does bikini waxes? They can ';style'; your pubic hair for you, trimming it in designs that are popular these days.
If there is hair in your vagina you might really need to see a doctor.
Yes actually I believe there is, they deal with pubic wigs more than with styling actual pubic hair though - mind there are always waxers that could style your pubic hair into a nice little shape, like a heart or something.

Which is the best recommended hair academy in the UK to learn to be a very good hair stylist?

As well as the ones said above look up Aston - they are a recruitment agency for hairdressing %26amp; they also provide all of your training plus they will find you a placement to work at. I think this would be alot of help to you, I mean my friend recently just went through Aston %26amp; they've set everything up for her. Also, because you will be working at a placement you will earn a wage whilst learning too. Hope this has helped you out :)

Not a raicist intended question, but do Canadian/cocasian hair stylist know how to cut Korean/Japanese styles?

Because I live in canada, and I want a cool short korean hair style. I've been going to a chinese/korean hair salon all my life, but now I'm thinking of going to a regular non-asian salon. Not a raicist intended question, but do Canadian/cocasian hair stylist know how to cut Korean/Japanese styles?
not unless they're familiar with the style. So probably notNot a raicist intended question, but do Canadian/cocasian hair stylist know how to cut Korean/Japanese styles?
it depends but I haven't seen one yet.
I don't think so. I went and asked for it and they had no idea when to Koreans that's a very well known hairstyle.
Best thing to do is bring a picture in with you. Print it off the internet, the more detailed the better. Then ask if its something that they can do before getting your hair cut there.
Korean/Japanese/ Chinese hair is very strong and requires real precision cutting. Hairstylists who mainly work with Caucasian hair find Asian hair a challenge, so unless you want to take a risk, i'd stick to what you know when it comes to hair.

How much does the average wedding hair + makeup stylist cost ?

I'm paying about $280 to have her in the morning and before the reception. She's also charging me $50 to drive to my house. Is that expensive or about average?

Thank you!!How much does the average wedding hair + makeup stylist cost ?
We use our local beauty academy

most of them have hair/nail package price for wedding parties

otherwise you're looking at around $300.00How much does the average wedding hair + makeup stylist cost ?
Is she charges 280 for everything or 280 PLUS 50 for driving? I had my hair, make up and manicure/pedicure done for $200 +50 for them to come to my house AND they did my mom's make up for free (just make up though)
That seems like WAY too much to me and I live in So Cal. I couldn't afford that so I'm looking for alternatives to get better deals. I'm not willing to pay $75-150 just for makeup like most people charge here. The hairdresser I normally use is only charging me $40 for my hair and she has a friend who will do my makeup for a reasonable price. Check craigslist or beauty schools (like someone else suggested) to get a better deal, if that's what you want.
That sounds about average. My stylist is doing color, extensions, and then a wavy part up part down style with my veil %26amp; she's charging 400.00 and thats without makeup. So I would think thats pretty reasonable. I'm only paying more because of the extensions and color ahead of time. Good luck!
well I don't know where you live so there's no way for me to answer this question. if you live in CA, that's about right. if you live in nebraska, I'd tell this girl to take a hike.
I would say that's about right. One girl I was looking at quoted me $30 for travel ($1 per mile) and $90 for styling. I just want my hair down and curls and to put the veil and stuff in.

  • Could the hair stylist do this to my hair?

Okay, so my hair is down to the middle of my back. I have bangs that are to my chin, and layers that start from my collarbone down (they are all the way around layers). I was wondering if I could get all the way around layers starting from my chin down. Would that work, even though I already have some? I know, this is a stupid question, but I'm just wondering. :) Thanks!Could the hair stylist do this to my hair?
Yep, a stylist could do that.

What they'll probably do is just trim your bottom layers and crete new layers higher up, near your chin. Stylists are pretty flexible, and if you explain what you want they're pretty good about getting it done the way you'd like (although sometimes it doesn't always turn out the way you imagined it would in your head :P)Could the hair stylist do this to my hair?
Is what you are saying is that you already have layers all over and you just want them shorter to blend in your bangs, (whew), and you want the layers shorter, then yes if you have thick enough hair it shouldn't be a problem.

But do ask her, since she's the professional, and she can actually see your hair. Just explain to her exactly what you want. What your asking for is really not that difficult.
WAIT!!! ask W00BY cause she helpped me with this same prob her email is woobytv@gamil.com tell her adriana sent you or go to her you tube account and tell her i sent you and she will make a vid showing you, her you tube is www.youtube.com/W00BYTV

Really im not playing she can help :)

Well she can give you tips...as well :)
Probably, but I think you should just ask the next time you go get your hair trimmed.
Oh I'm sure they can, just make sure you tell them exactly how you want it.
Yes but try to find a picture of it to better help her.
just make sure you trust your hair stylist, and bring a reference photo.
    I believe so.
    i think she could
    not stupid,

    ask your hair dresser (:!

I would like to have a hair stylist fired, how can I accomplish that?

this hair stylist is renting a chair from the owner, I was thinking of making an appt. with the owner stylist and telling him the story.

Or just a phone call will do?I would like to have a hair stylist fired, how can I accomplish that?
why? It is not for you to decide if they lose their spot. If you don't like your cut, see someone else.I would like to have a hair stylist fired, how can I accomplish that?
Bad experience? A phone call to the owner will probably be sufficient. As far as firing the stylist, that is ultimately the owner's decision. The most you can do is not go there anymore, encourage your friends to do the same, and inform the owner of your intentions. You might also be able to complain to a local consumer group, such as the Better Business Bureau or similar.
Bet she still works there in 10 yrs.

Whats the stuff hair stylist use ate the end of a haircut?

kind of gel like but isnt. it makes it feel fresh and clean...and lighter?Whats the stuff hair stylist use ate the end of a haircut?
Most of the time it's a spray bottle with water in it,sometimes they use this shining serum or mousse, don't feel bad if people say rude things to you(because people say its an obvious answer but its not),you didnt know anyways!Thats why were allowed to ask questions!Whats the stuff hair stylist use ate the end of a haircut?
its shining serum if you like it most salons sell the products they use
I think it is a shining serum.
its called a spray bottle with water ....
I've found that they use some type of texturizing paste or molding wax. They just use a little bit and then rub it through your ends and tousle it.
    Probably Mousse.

What is a good tip for a hair stylist? I have long hair and got highlights and it cost $128.?

What's the right amount of tip to give? What is a good tip for a hair stylist? I have long hair and got highlights and it cost $128.?
    15%, for the hairdresser.

$2 to $5, for the shampoo person.

And, it is acceptable to tip your hairdresser if he/she is the owner.

Looks like you got a good deal on the price.

Standard price in our community is $150+, for a cap highlight, $175+, for a cap highlight with a toner, on hair below the shoulders.

Foils start at $150+, depending on the number of foils.

And, the hair cut is extra.

What is a good tip for a hair stylist? I have long hair and got highlights and it cost $128.?
im a hair dresser and i get like tips from $5-$30

unless the person who is doing your hair owns the place id doing you hair you dnt realy have to give them a tip.

and if there not the owner you dnt want to go over $30 cos the boss gets a bit funny trust me my boss put up a tip jar and said that he spread it evenly over us but he kept it all.

i'd say just always round it off to $130 and just say keep the change or give them a $20 tip so it rounds it to $150. i think thats the way to go.

It just depends on how well they cut and dyed my hair. If they done a good job, $15-20. If its okay $5-10 and if bad, NONE.

Do Hair Stylist make up fake names something like a stage name?

Not usually, The only person I can think of who changed there name was Paul Mitchell...and Honestly, I don't think you should change your name. i think you should stay w/ your name also it has a great ring 2 it. on the other hand you can add a lil' flare 2 your business cards
Strippers change their names not hair stylist.

  • Is it a good idea to let you professional hair stylist to pick out your hair STRAIGHTENER?

shes getting mine for me or do you think that i should get it myselfIs it a good idea to let you professional hair stylist to pick out your hair STRAIGHTENER?
you should DEFINATELY let her because she knows wat kind of hair u have and wat straightener is best for you like i had a crappy straightener but then i told my hair sylist and she bought me a new one and it worked 100% betterIs it a good idea to let you professional hair stylist to pick out your hair STRAIGHTENER?
Well, she is a professional so she probably knows what she is doing and she might be able to get a discount for you because she is a stylist. However, she might not tell you about the discount, so it will be the same price. Just find out what kind of iron she is going to get you and how much it will be and see if you can find a better price for the same one somewhere else. (Do not buy them from ebay, they are most of the time low quality, no matter what the brand)
I think she knows what she is doing because she knows what kind of hair you have. So then she will know which one and plus they had to go to school to know the certain types of hair. Let her pick it out because she probably will want to make you happy. It is better if you let her pick it out!
yes but dont buy it at a salon i used to be a shampoo girl at a salon and and prices were way higher in the salon then in the stores have them tell you what one to get and then go to ulta and get the same or simalir onee salons sell there products much more expensive then they are because thats where they make a lot of their money
yes although it probely will be expensive
ya because she knows your hair so she will probley pick one thats fits you to a tea=]
let her tell you which kind then go buy it your self

if your hairstylist used bleach for your highlights it's going to have to grow out because bleach does not fade. If she did it with regular color than yeah it will eventually fade away the more you wash your hair.Is there a way my hair stylist can remove highlights from my hair without using dye?
Sorry. It's impossible, unless temporary dye was used to create the highlights. Dye is the best way to go if you're opposed to cutting your hair.Is there a way my hair stylist can remove highlights from my hair without using dye?
yea they have special shampoos most of the hair salons

Hair stylist messed up my hair in a really bad way?

Help, I've never had my hair colored before. I have/had waist long. Its naturally curly, dishwater blonde with a smidge of red though I am starting to grey right on top in front.

I went to a stylist. We agreed on a cut and then discussed color to hide the grey. She had a great idea ...some very very dark ( almost purple hue in black) with a burgundy/wine/red ';tint';. I told her absolutley not. Nothing that dramaticlly different. The darkest would be her own medium brown and prefferably something closer to my own color like her nail lady ( she is the shop owner). Ok she got it she would mix and, well .

Guess what I have exactly the color she had the great idea of. Black/purple, with burgundy red.

She assured me it was wet ( you can't blow dry ,my hair or you get an electicfied poodle) it wasn't that dark, would lighten as it dryed, would fade, it would develope with my own color.

Do I go back to her? Eat the 100+ and pay someone else to fix. Is fixing it going to kill my hair?Hair stylist messed up my hair in a really bad way?
    Go back to the salon.

If she is not the owner, I would talk to the owner and explain that she gave you something that you adamantly said no to. It is your hair, your decision. They can suggest but no just give you what they think will look better.

Get your money back and then find a new stylist.Hair stylist messed up my hair in a really bad way?
yikes yikes yikes! first off SORRY! thats a major bummer...What i would say to do is to wait awhile...the color will lightin' up after you wash it a few times....color always fades...but if you cant stand the color and must do something now keep in mind that the only way to fix it would be to lightin' it and that would involve damaging your hair...they would have to bleach it....but if you do decide to go this route you should call the salon where you went before and they should ';fix'; it for you for FREE! I have had many problems before....and my hair stylist has ALWAYS fixed it...and for free! Good Luck!

  • Psychics: The hair stylist ruined my hair(cut it too short), will people notice it tomorrow and think it's bad?

I usually have a very 50's rocker style hair, like Ricky Nelson in his teens. Anyway, I decided to give the new hairstylist at the salon a chance and she cut it too darn short!!!

Will people notice it, have an opinion, or not notice at all? Psychics: The hair stylist ruined my hair(cut it too short), will people notice it tomorrow and think it's bad?
I am sensing that there will be people that will notice. I am getting the letter S - do you know anyone with a name that starts with S, or with an S in it or that knows someone with an S in their name. If so that person may notice but may or may not say anything to you.Psychics: The hair stylist ruined my hair(cut it too short), will people notice it tomorrow and think it's bad?
Whether people will notice your short hair obviously depends primarily on your astrological sign. It also depends on the sun sign of the people who see you. Knowing the moon sign of the people who see you would also help, but to a lesser degree.

How clearly people can see you will also affect whether they will notice your new haircut. So we must consider how much sunlight there will be during the day, and how brightly you can see the moon at night. The brightness of the moon depends on whether there is a full moon, new moon, etc. The phase of the moon depends on the relative position of the earth, moon and sun.

In a nutshell, the physical and spiritual laws of the entire universe will be the determining factors in whether people will notice your new hairstyle.

Without knowledge of your astrological sign, I have had to rely on my tarot deck and the I Ching. Wait a while as I do the psychic reading.

Will people notice your new hairstyle?

No. No one will give a crap.
LMAO @ psychic for the past 3 minutes.

that sounds funny. If you honestly tried then perhaps there is some truth to your prediction. I wouldn't doubt it ;)

As for the question, it's quite silly to think that no one will notice or that someone isn't going to think it looks bad. So many minds so many thoughts. Someone is bound to love it while another will hate it.

Be comfortable with it and know that it will still grow up. Blessings and congratulations on your hair cut.

    Shadow
Does it really take a physic to tell you that someone will notice you got your hair cut? Of course people will notice. Some will like it, some will not. In the end it does not really matter anyway because you can always let it grow back out.
Some might if they know you or seen you around.

Everyone has an opinion, and there's probably a lot of very unaware people around.
Stop looking to psychics to answer your questions. It will do you no good whatsoever.
You care about it more than anyone else will.
People will notice it and be amazed. They will think you very

much ahead of the fashion trend. enjoy!

How much would you tip your hair stylist?...?

If you bill is between $120.00-$160.00How much would you tip your hair stylist?...?
If the service was good I think $20 is perfect. I always tip my stylist $10 for a $50 service. i do massage and usually recieve $10 for a $60 massage, i think you hit the price of the tip right on the button. How much would you tip your hair stylist?...?
    a quarter
I would tip about $5-$10 depending on how the style came out. Liked good tip. Didnt like tip less or no tip. If you go to the same stylist give good tips cuz they will continue to do a good job.
I would say $20 is good if they do a really great job. When I get a $30 cut I always give a $10 tip because she does a good job. Also, if your stylist is always busy and hard to get an appointment with you always want to tip well so the next time you need her she will be more likely to squeeze you in!
I get a 175.00 manicure, coloring, massage, and makeup.

Although I own the franchise I still tip 25.00/ not too much cause

I pay that much an hour as the salary.

    http://www.mtv.com
15 to 20 percent of bill minus tax, extra for special service.
I would still tip at 20%, which would be between $24 - $32. If you can spend that much to get your hair done, then you can afford the tip.
    $5
if it is good i say probally 15.00 but if its not to to good i would say 5.00 ok

    your welcome
    $20.00
    $20.00
I think that if your happy what the hairstylist did with your hair. And she charge you $160.00 and she took two to three hours. Then you should tip her $20-25.00. Just the other day, I had my hair done. I got high and low lights, a cut and blow dry. I was charged $110.00. I was there for three hours. I gave her a tip of $15.00. That's comes out to $5 dollars hour. There has been times when I'm at Salon and its lunch time. I'll order lunch for the both of us. At the end when my hair is done. I try to tip her. She like no thank you. Why cause I treated her to lunch. ( lunch cost around $6.00)
give your stylist a tip of $2.00. you went to the salon to get your hair done and $120-$160 is a lot of money. You dont have money to waste. Im not tryin to be cheap but that's what i would do
Depends on the service. Normally I tip anywhere from 20-45.

How much should I tip my hair stylist? Give me a money amount please.?

My price would be around $100. How much, not percent but a dollar amount. How much should I tip my hair stylist? Give me a money amount please.?
I think it depends. I've had hairstylist due extra things to me hair that I said NO to but they did anyway..

Depending on how long it took, I say 10 dollars would be good..How much should I tip my hair stylist? Give me a money amount please.?
10% would be 10 bux... but if u plan to go back and ur real happy give her more...if not atleast 10...
well if its 100 then a gracious 10 dollar tip would be good.

    no more than 10.
    20 or 30 dollars.
$10 would be a standard amount to tip , but if you lik ethe stylist and they did a really good job then give them a bit more.
On $100. you should tip $20. Hairdressers are usually tipped 20%. However if you don't like your hair you can let her know by bot tipping at all.
    10 usd$
45 to 50 dollars if you go there often.. If its just like a once in a while thing id say 20 30 dollars
Well thats easy 10-15% so $10-15.
I cross cities to get to my barber. If I arrive and I'm 3rd in queue, i patiently wait. My barber knows what i need. He prepares everything, gets a recap of instructions (as there might be changes), tells me to close my eyes and relax, electric razors the hairlines, blade razors the side burns and back, cuts it carefully, and finishes it with fine scissors. Then shampoos it, gives me a facial and finishes it with a ';hot towel';, a scalp massage and an upper body massage. when he erects my chair, he combs my hair carefully and hands me a mirror to check it. Does your hair stylist do this to you? coz The tip i give him is as much as the haircut fee of the salon (I won't tell you how much). If he cuts the hair of my sons, i give him 20% for each.

    Principles behind it:

Good things are never cheap, cheap things are never good. If you don't like the service, politely walk away. if you want it, go seek it wherever it is.

Lastly, the tip you give is a sign of your appreciation for the service, not an obligation...the ';tip'; is a display of your generous character meticulously counter-weighed by the degree pragmatism you possess on current financial conditions.
If you're going back, maybe $10. If not, no more than $5.
At LEAST 10% of what ever they charge..... of course depending on how you like the job that they did.
WAT $100, here we can get it for like 拢15 so that about $30.

What is a good tip to leave for my hair stylist?

I was thinking 15%, is that enough?!!What is a good tip to leave for my hair stylist?
I've often wondered what to leave also,I asked the receptionist and he didn't really know.I know that waitresses expect 15% of the total I also know that they are paid 2.01 an hour. How do you determen how much to tip, when someone is paid a good salery or10.00 or more an hour? To me I think 15% is to much for high paying positions. But I don't know how tipping even came about for everyone.(I do understand why waitresses get tipped) I kinda think that tipping has gotton out of control , everbody these days are expecting a tip. When I get my hair cut I didn't know you have to tip hair dresser, shampooer and blowdyer that gets very exspensive,Like I said I think tipping has gotten out of hand. You know that is there job they get paid about the same If not more than retail.I have never gotten a tip because of my knowledge and good service.I have spent hours with some customers.I also undrestand that is my job. What is a good tip to leave for my hair stylist?
    15% is good.
i give 5 dollars on a 25 dollar haircut. if you are getting more done (colors and perms) you want to tip a lot more.
I tip $5 or if it's a really good one $10, my stylist is an artist
Yes, I would say that is very good.
Yeah, 15% is good. If you love what they've done, leave more. If it's not your regular hair stylist and you hate it, leave less or none. Always keep it at 15% though for your regular stylist.
    I give $20 always.
10-15 %.. it depends if the service you got is good and you like what he/she did to yor hair.. it's really up to you..
    just shave it all off
    Yeah, i do 15%
I never know either how much to tip....

10-15 % I think.. and if the person owns the salon then on the lower side.
    I give 10% for a simple haircut and 15%

for color or any other work that takes longer
If your hair stylist does a super job then I'd say 20%.
    I give $5 for a hair cut.

I have dated lots of cosmo's and they are under tipped. Add more for the more services they give.

For example if you get a cut and color, or a wash, cut, and prem, she could be spending two to two and a half hours with you. Then if you are cheap and give only five bucks it is a loss, since she could have done four or five cuts in that time all with tips.

Most cosmo's in public chain stores make a low wage per hour and the tips are helpfull to them.
    i give them 5 dollars
    I ALWAYS LEFT A TIP AROUND $ 5 TO 10 DOLLARS
forget the percent. you take the first number of the cost of the hair cut...lets say the haircut is $35. you take the first number (3) double it and round up. 3 doubled would be 6 so give her 10 dollars. trust me...you do this and she will never mess your hair up.
My hair cut ranges from 15-$17.00. I always give her a 20 and say keep the change. Some people dont tip at all so every little bit is appreciated. But I live in Newport, Vermont and sadly people are stingy
If they did a REALLY REALLY good job leave 15-20% Judge it on what u think when you see the result :)
I once read in a magazine that 20% is standard if they do a good job on your hair.
well if your hairstylist is compeltly awsome like mine then i would give him or her about...30 dollars

but if you dont like your haircut...then dont even leave a tip

How do you tip a hair stylist?

I haven't had a haircut since I was a little kid. My hair is really long and I'm having it cut and donated tonight.

My question is, how do you tip a hair stylist? Do hair stylists usually ring you up at the register after a hair cut? Or do you tip them right after they cut your hair, before you go up front to pay? Do you hand the stylist the money directly? Is it customary to bring cash to tip with, even if you are paying with a credit card?

I know these sound like pretty dumb questions but I have not set foot in a hair salon in the last half of my life and honestly have no clue about the etiquette in a salon. Thanks in advance for the serious answers. How do you tip a hair stylist?
I always hand the stylist the tip directly. Always cash.

The stylist isn't always the one ringing you up, so I prefer to give it directly (as I'm getting out of the chair).

Always cash because if you put it on your card, they might not get it until they get their paycheck. This way, they get it immediately.

And your questions are not dumb at all.How do you tip a hair stylist?
Generally you will be rung up at the counter after your haircut. If you're paying by credit card, you may have to tell the cashier what you're tipping before they ring you out. Sometimes you'll just add the tip on the receipt. If you're doing cash, you can just walk your tip back to the stylist, unless of course the stylist is your cashier. 15 to 20 percent is standard. If you're not happy with your style, just politely as the stylist to adjust it before leaving.

Good for your for donating your hair.
Well, when I go in there is usually a cup with tips written on it or a jar with money on it on their own lil desk. Just put like 2-5 dollars in there and you will be safe. They will be greatful for whatever they get usually average tip is 2-5 dollars. I would prob do 5 tho with your long long hair. :)
it all depends on how nice your salon is

    exapmples

    ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::…

the nicer the place is and the more things you have gotten done the higher tip you leave

the more service you got done the more

but on all services at a salon a minuim 20 buck tip would work

and then add 5 for every extra thing you have donee

me? i get my hair died tonned eye brows waxed so i leave a 40 dolla ti[ usealy
sometimes its included in the bill, sometimes is not clear and you have to ask. If you liked the service you can leave a tip, its not obligatory , and this should be around 15 or 20 percent of the cost of the haircut
Over here you ask how much she's charging for your cut. Then you pay her at the register. The tip could be cash if u want. Over here the place where I go they don't have a credit card thing. So it's safer to take in cash just in case.
Pay after since the person might hack up your hair. My minimum is $2 for cuts in the $10 to $20 range, and $5 for up to $40 cuts.

You can choose cash or tack it onto the bill. Either way is fine.
Where I go, yes my hairstylish rings me up at the register and if the total is $55.00 I would probably give her $60.00. Hairstylist make good money, so the tip does not have to be big in my opinion.

    Hope this helps.
The salon I go to, the stylist rings me up after the style. I use my credit card and add the tip there. Usually I tip about $3 as I really only get a trim and the cut itself is only 12 bucks.
you can put it on your credit card if you want to be discreet
I would put money in an envelope addressed to the stylist or get flowers sent ..I have seen thank you cards in hairdressers.

    hope this helps

First go pay in the front, then, tip the stylist! That's what I always do!
Give them cash after they ring you up.
they give you a recete and you write it on there.
i dont think u have to tip i know i never do or if i do i might give 1 dollar
    give him some cash
Well after you cut your hair they will take you up to the register and here is what happenes

she takes you up the regester and then you pay ex- 40 dallors for the hair style. You hand her the check. Then after she takes it either give her from 5-12 dalllors. 5 if she just cut it. 7-12 if she styled it and all that stuff.. But if your going to like supercuts then just 8$. So like after you hand her the check for the 12$ then you hand her like 5-12 dallors in cash. Then say somthing like Thank You i love my hair.

And then she may ask if you want shampoo or like give you instructions on how to blow dry paper. Or whatever but yha thats how you tip.
most people don't tip hairstylists... Ive had many haircuts and I've never tipped. It's not like a waiter, its a hairstylist. therefore, it's not customary to tip them. They're used to not getting tips. If they were, the debit machine would have a tip option and same with the credit card slips that you sign.

What are some key words to tell your hair stylist for a Scene/Emo Haircut?

I have a few pictures im going to show them but that isn't always enough I want to emphasize a few key things in the style... what would i need to specifically ask them for so they get the idea...... things such as razored, layers cut at blah blah length, thanks alot :)What are some key words to tell your hair stylist for a Scene/Emo Haircut?
if you are wanting the real short layers but you want to preserve your length, just tell them you want the peacock layers. thats what they are called when they are real short but your hair is still over all long.

i can also say that the razor technique can be easily mimicked with regular cutting shears. the razor literally shatters your hair, as if giving you instant split ends, which makes your cut less durable, meaning you would need a haircut much more often. but thats what i'd suggest :]What are some key words to tell your hair stylist for a Scene/Emo Haircut?
Well, I tell my stylist basically just to cut it up with tons of choppy layers, and to thin out the ends, and to razor it, and to make my bangs choppy and angled as well.

    So, my keys words are..

short choppy layers, thin out ends, razor all layers and bangs, angled and choppy bangs.

She'll get the idea you want emo hair :)
yea bringing a picture is a good idea.....but emo and scene are a little different
short choppy layers! side fringe! bring a picture!

Is it ok NOT to tip a ';professional'; hair stylist if you receive burns from the curling irons?

First of all, I'm an African-American, and I have just recently went to a professional hair salon at a popular department store to get my hair relaxed (which chemically straightens the hair) and pressed. During the whole process, I'm feeling a burning sensation on my scalp. After that, the ';professional'; stylist starts pressing my hair and burns me with the straighteners like 3 times. After paying 55 bucks for her services and leaving, I go to look in a mirror, and discover that I have small BURNS along my hairline, which appeared as though she tried to cover them up with my hair. Even though I don't think there will be a next time, would it be alright NOT to tip for such bad services? Is it ok NOT to tip a ';professional'; hair stylist if you receive burns from the curling irons?
I think it would be alright if you didnt tip her. Just think in reverse if she were in your shoes and you are a ';professional'; hair dresser that burned you would you tip her? It sounds like you didnt mention it before leaving the store and that maybe you are upset I would just give the salon a call I bet anything that they will try to keep your business. As a paying customer we have certain expectations and if they arent met just speak with the manager maybe they will give you a discount or money back.Is it ok NOT to tip a ';professional'; hair stylist if you receive burns from the curling irons?
    OUCH! no tip....
Absolutely! She's lucky she just got away with no tip and not a lawsuit!
yeah! I wouldn't pay at all if i were u!
Any service u r not satisfied with, u should not tip them. Nothing mean about that. The most time I pay my regular hair stylist is especially in the holiday season and if she squeezed me in. But I go to her all the time so a couple of bucks here and there add up.
DIY babe, it's okaay to not be a salon freak. my MOM does my highlights every month, my sister cuts it. I GET COMPLIMENTS EVERY DAY :)
    Did your hair look nice?
I think that you were generous for even paying for that kind of service. There is no way I would have even paid!! I have had the same stylist for about 15 years, before going to anyone else, call all of your friends and get some names of reliable stylists.
A tip is meant as a reward for a job well done. If she burned you three times, that is not a job well done and therefore, deserves no tip.
Tip her if she is your usual hair stylist and usually does a good job. If it's your first time with this stylist, don't tip her.
not only would i not have tipped her i would not have paid her for service rendored. and they would have paid to get treatment for the burns that i received at their salon. you should have spoken to upper management concerning your experience at the salon. burns are serious no matter how small they are, they do not heal that well and sometimes they leave ugly scars. you need to go back and make the salon aware of their service because this may be a reoccuring situation that no one has brought to their attention. they need to be more responsible with people hair.
I wouldn't tip her at all.
Don't tip then, if the service was bad..don't tip!!!

At the most...leave a dollar or two..only if you are feeling guilty!

    But I would NOT tip!
Not only would I not pay the tip, I'd mention it to her supervisor. That's pretty bad.(in the original sense of the word)
hell no! Not sure what that all really means, but people can't be charged 55 dollars for a burned scalp!
You don't tip and you don't go back.
You should not tip, but it isn't ok to leave without slapping them.
    Absolutely!

For one... They are a ';professional'; and should know how to prevent chemical burns on your head from the straightner. And on top of that they should know how to use the hot irons...OMG I would be mad! Be sure to put some cocoa butter on your burns so they don't scar.

    I wouldn't go back there. : )
Definitely don't tip. She burned you, didn't apoligze and then tried to cover it up so that you don't notice it right away. Whether she is your regular stylist or not, don't tip.

If there ever is a next time, speak up right there and tell them that you're feeling a burning sensation. She could've hurt you much more.

    Good luck.
I wouldn't have tipped her. But also you should have told her your scalp was burning, cause then she could have taken it off immediately. However, if you DID tell her and she didn't do anything then not only would I not tip but I also wouldn't pay! I also would recomend not going to dept store salons. Their stylists NEVER seem to know how to do any minority hair. Good luck next time and use coco butter to heal ur scars on ur scalp.

What school does a Hair Stylist go to?

I'm doing this career project for school! And I really need to know:

What important school do you need to go to, whether to be a hair stylist?

How long do you have to learn??

How much money does an average hair stylist get, per year??What school does a Hair Stylist go to?
they go to cosmetology school. it can take any where from 10-12 months its a 1500 hour program.

it can cost any where from 600-20,000...yes expensive on average is about 10grand.

it depends. You can work on commission, rent a chair, or get an hourly wage. Commission is scary to start with, because you have to build a clientele, and that takes a good 2 years. Renting a chair is the same scariness until you have been established. Hourly pay is very low, but can get you started and you will learn on customers more than you did in beauty school. (they don't realize this) After a few years of building your clientele, you can make a decent wage if you work hard, late, and stand up most of the day.The secret is you must stay put to build up loyal customer base.Depending on how much you work, earnings can vary from 15000 yr. to 50,000. A cosmetologist can also teach at a beauty school. The best way to start out is Commission, you only get paid on how much the salon makes, so therefor if you do not have a clientele built up then that way is perfect to do it without getting an hourly wage or renting a booth. What school does a Hair Stylist go to?
cosmetology school. Every state has different regulations. california is 1600 hours. you have to do a certain number of hair cuts, perms, etc to graduate. then typically you assist in a salon after to learn more tricks of the trade. hairstylist constantly take classes to stay up with the trends ( or at least they should). school costs range like any other school. The pay scale ranges as well. 30,000 to 150,000 a year depending on the stage u are in your career.
    I think you take cosmetics?

And i'm pretty sure it depends, You'll have to spend money to get some money.

Looking for a hair stylist in the Long Beach, CA area that can work with thick, curly hair. Help!!!?

If someone out there with similar hair knows one please let me know!Looking for a hair stylist in the Long Beach, CA area that can work with thick, curly hair. Help!!!?
Check out http://tiny.cc/LJSfd for a curly hair expert! Looking for a hair stylist in the Long Beach, CA area that can work with thick, curly hair. Help!!!?
There is a salon name ';Heads Up Designs'; in Long Beach. The address is 906 E. Artesia Blvd. I would go there to get my hair straighten by Atwell. His number is (562) 423-0988. He does a great job when it comes to straightening hair, plus he color and cuts. But if you are just looking to keep your hair curly, I would suggest you do the following:

    1) Never use shampoo that contains Sodium Laurel Sulfate; instead use an organic shampoo, cleansing cream, or just conditioner to wash scalp and hair.

    2) In the morning when you shower rinse hair, apply conditioner or cleansing cream to clean hair and scalp, rinse then apply a thick conditioner. I like the ones that have silk protein the best cheap one is Suave Naturals Tropical Coconut, medium priced one is Jessi-curl Too Shea! conditioner, and high priced Biolage Conditioning Balm.

    3) After you run the conditioner in hair let it sit in for about 5 minutes than you want to use a wide tooth comb to detangle curls starting from the ends up to root till the comb slips through easily through hair. Rinse.

    4) Do not towel dry. Use paper towels to dry hair never a terry cloth or let it just drip.Do not comb or brush hair, curls are already in place, doing so will make them frizzy. Reapply the same conditioner you used in shower, apply mango butter. You can get mango butter from Whole Foods Store or order through www.MountainHerbRose.com If your hair and scalp is really dry you can also apply coconut oil. Make sure its organic and that it comes from Whole Foods or moutain herb rose.

    5) Apply gel. The best gels so far are Eco Styler Gel ranges 8-10, and I.C. Fantasia styling gel. Make sure any gel you use contains no alcohol.

    Voila! You have nice curls.
I could do ur hair but i'm in louisiana

What Should I Tell Hair Stylist?

I am going to get my hair cut and colored. I want to go from a medium brown to a blonde. This isn't a very common movie, but I want my hair the same cut and color as Kate Hudson's in ';Le Divorce,'; but I don't know how to explain the cut and color to the stylist. Does anyone know how to explain such a cut? What color would that blonde be?What Should I Tell Hair Stylist?
She has a couple of different looks in the film...

I would suggest trying to print a picture from the Internet of the look you want...bring that to the hair dresser.

Try looking at some images of her at this site...

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0306734/

Basically to achieve it you have to be prepared with a visual for the stylist. (Do you have a laptop?)

Good luck! Hope it works out for you!

You may also try a google image search of Kate Hudson for a more images. What Should I Tell Hair Stylist?

This shows the length and the waves. I know she has a hat on in the picture, but I doubt your stylist will demand to see where her part is haha.

Good luck, my friend went blond too by the way, she looked amazing!

HELP PLEASE! Wife is hair stylist made $13,724.25 that was 1099-MISC, now turbo tax says she owes 4K! What now

She only made 13k for the year, there has to be a way around paying 4k in tax it can't be right please help someone, we are relying on our tax return that went from 4,400.00 down to nothing what can I do? Married filing jointly with a new baby.HELP PLEASE! Wife is hair stylist made $13,724.25 that was 1099-MISC, now turbo tax says she owes 4K! What now
About half of that is self employment tax, for social security and medicare. She didn't have than deducted from her paychecks, and doesn't have an ';employer'; who is required to pay the matching funds, so she has to pay both halves now.

Also, if you entered your income first, all of the exemptions and deductions got applied to yours rather than split, so when you entered hers, all of it was taxable at a rate starting where yours left off. It's not really that SHE owes the amount, but that you owe it together when your incomes are added together.

Sorry, but it's probably right. Didn't you figure that since she didn't have any taxes taken out through the year, it would catch up sometime?HELP PLEASE! Wife is hair stylist made $13,724.25 that was 1099-MISC, now turbo tax says she owes 4K! What now
If she has 1099-MISC income she should have been filing form 1040-ES quarterly (or you should have adjusted your W-4 to cover it) so the tax would not hit you all at once. The income she makes would be taxed at your marginal rate (15%?), plus the taxes on Schedule SE. $4000 sounds about right.
Yes, your income is also subject to 15.4% SE tax. However you can deduct your business related expenses. You income is reported on schedule C (Form 1040).

How you will treat the 1099-Misc income, read: http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/03/w2-o鈥?/a>
Go to H%26amp;R Block. They can help you.
If she made $13,724.25 with no deductions, than you have a $2,100 self-employment tax bill on top of your income taxes. If you are in the 15% tax bracket the income tax would be $2,059 - TOTAL TAX = $4,158. An honest tax preparer can not lower that tax bill.

The only way to lower your tax bill is to make sure you deduct any legitimate expenses she had - shampoo, towels, scissors, hair dryers etc...

Do I have to go to college to be a hair stylist?

    so do i?

or can i just go to a beauty school?

and if so is there certain requirements that you must have inorder to be able to attend a beauty school?

do i even have to do something in highschool for my to even be accepted to be a hair stylist? or is it just i have to go to beauty school?Do I have to go to college to be a hair stylist?
you have to go to a beauty school for a couple of years. You can study at one beauty school and then transfer to something more prestigiousDo I have to go to college to be a hair stylist?
you have to go to 'beauty' school you also have to be certified %26amp; registered by the state that you work in....there are no free lunches
    Yes %26amp; no.

You can still go to college and do the following (if you wanted to):

You can do separate courses to get certificates in hairdressing. They do cost a bit, but are worth it.

You just ring up and see when they're starting their courses.

Or you can look for getting a hairdressing apprenticeship. You don't have to go to school (as in college). You work at the salon and every now and then you'll go to a beauty college. And because your at the salon and if you've completly finished, you don't have to look around for a hair salon to apply for job. Cause your already there.

    Good luck :]
capri colleage is what my cousin did and she is a hair stylist right now!
    http://www.findstuff.com/search.php?quer…

    that is hott
i went to a 2 year college and received a degree in applied science and certificate in cosmetology... you can just go to beauty school but you wont have as much experience when you go to get a job (since beauty schools are only about 10 months long) its worth the wait... believe me!! you dont have to do anything in high school but you might want to check it out now seeing as there can be up to a 2 year wait to get in depending on where you go. to get in you must be at least 16 and have a ged or hs diploma

How do you find the right hair stylist?

By referralHow do you find the right hair stylist?
try asking diff pple, or get a frend to experiment for u ... lol. jk

=]How do you find the right hair stylist?
Ask your friends who they go to and how does the perons that does their hair do. Also keep trying beauticians till u fint the right one, but NOT too many or your hair will start to break off. If u change beauticians too often and let too many people in your hair your hair will start to break off. So DONT try too many! Holla back!!! Ya girl, Miss *Princess* $Diva$ !Jade!
word of mouth is the best way. You just have to try and see if they are good with your type hair. Then follow them where ever they go forever.
to find the right stylist you decide what you want in a stylist.. do you want someone young that might want to do something fun or would you like someone older -may be more experienced do you want to go to a big salon where you might not get the best customer service or a smaller one that you may get better customer service...
it may take a while, but try out different salons.

even though they're more expensive, nicer salons seem to have stylists that can create more styles (in my experience, anyways). i live in minnesota, and i don't know if they have these anywhere else, but i love rocco altobelli.
Look around. A good stylist will talk to you, give you a free consultation (though you may have to make an appointment). Ask friends whose hair you like where they go, look around at the salons for a style you like. And make sure the salon is clean and hygenic.

How do you ask your hair stylist...?

I want to know how she'd curl my thick hair. I'm only 13, and very shy. How do you ask you hairstylist how to curl you hair? Will they show you then, or do you have to pay for a new appointmen? Does it cost money, if so, how much?

I can't just do it myself, it doesn't work. How do you ask your hair stylist...?
Tell the stylist that you need help learning how to style your hair. If the budget is tight, you may want to go to a beauty school where they have students cut and style your hair under the supervision of their instructors. This costs much less than many of the salons. How do you ask your hair stylist...?
YOu need to request a ';lesson'; from your stylist in how to manage your hair yourself.

Instead of just having a trim, ask for a flattering cut and style you can work with on your own.

A good hair stylist will give you what you need,

a great cut, perfect style and make sure you can do it yourself.

Don't be shy, that's what you are paying for.

And skip the local cut and trim shops, find a good shop...ask Mom or favorite aunt for help. And don't go alone, take a girl friend and an adult with you.

    :) Good luck!
    N0 IT W0NT JUST ASK HER THE SAME QUESTI0N SHELL PR0BABLY SH0W Y0U A PIECE 0R 2
it depends on where you go on whether or not it will cost more. I would suggest you find a salon that is small and personal. don't be afraid to ask your hairstylist anything! and if you're afraid to ask him/her when you get there, then schedule it when you make the appointment. maybe you can enlist the help of your parents, older sibling, etc. to help you make the appointment. most hairstylists will be happy to give you some curling advice
after you get your hair cut , when shes styling it . . you can ask . depending on how nice she is , she may or may not charge you . my stylist always asks if i want it straight or curly after i get it cutt .
when you get a hair cut, ask her. i'm sure you don't sit like a log in the chair throughout the entire time. when she starts curling it, ask her to explain. speak up, or you'll never know.

or, you can take a curling iron, and start practicing.

What is that little pouch called that hair stylist use to hold their shears in? Where can they be bought?

a salon smock or apron. you can search online or visit a local beauty supplyWhat is that little pouch called that hair stylist use to hold their shears in? Where can they be bought?
My hair dresser said she called her the storage pouch for her sheers. Any beauty supply place should have them. If you have a ';Sally's'; in your town, I am sure they have them. You may also get you beautician to order you one from her supplier. I have seen the shears and carrying case in several catalogs. I think one of them was the ';Me Beautiful'; you may want to try one of these options.

Hope you find what you are looking for.

How much would you tip a hair stylist who spent 4 hours on your hair?

The whole process was a combination of 2 dye jobs and a cut. my hair is dark and i wanted to dye it hot pink/red for halloween (it looks amazing!) First she had to lift the color, and then rinse it, cut it, dry it, dye it, rinse again, and then finish the cut, and style. it took four hours. How big of a tip should you leave for a job like this? How much would you tip a hair stylist who spent 4 hours on your hair?
$5-$8How much would you tip a hair stylist who spent 4 hours on your hair?
    i say 8-10 dolars
I didn't know they got tips.
uhh it depends on your hair bill. you should leave atleast 15-20%. i'd probably give a $20 tip.
Normally I do not tip . It is part of their service .
    3 THINGS.

    1) In general stylist gets 20%.

2)Consider how tired she must be after working her *** off and jumping through hoops to pull off exactly what you wanted. (Hard to find that)

    3)You said it looked amazing.

Be generous. Enough to pay for a delicious lunch that she missed out on while doing your hair :-)

Plus $10 to $20,00 more easily.
    20% sounds good
I think you should tip her at least a 10-20% of what you paid int eh beginning. Tipping hair service is just like tipping in a restaurant.
It depends on the total. I usually give mine 20% of the total cost. So if it cost 120.00 dollars you would tip 24 dollars.
    10 dollar
For me, it depends on what it costs. I've had a similar treatment (color strip, multi-toned highlights and a cut) and paid $225, then I tipped an addition $25. Other times I leave a tip for the stylist ($15-20) and a smaller tip ($5 or so) for the person who washes my hair. It all depends on the situation.
i would tip 20 - 25% of the total bill or a minimum of $50.00. any process that takes four hours can only be done successfully by an artist with passion, creativity and education. if you are happy, reward your stylist.

if you are not happy, speak calmly and openly and ask your stylist to fix it. a true artist want the clieht to be happy.
Take it from a hair stylist, please please at least make it worth my wild. I would say we would be happy with 15 dollars more would be great but, please tip us something, so many don't. Thanks for asking.
me, lacking hair, am quite jealous!!! lol!! but consider the time/service/price overall plus the stylist's ';charm'; or lack thereof...is this person your regular stylist or are they a one time deal? whatever feels right/fair. once i went back to one who did a nice job %26amp; gave him a huckleberry ice cream cone (which he'd never had before) so that was a tip in itself. Do what you thinks right i suppose.
my sister has uber curly, frizzy hair. our beloved stylist spent about four hours (stayed after the mall closed) to finish cutting and straightening it. we gave her a $20 tip because we felt bad for making her stay so long.
    50%

Should I fire my hair stylist or stay with her?

I am thinking about leaving my hair stylist and finding someone else, due to what I will call '; personality conflicts'; A friend of mine, who is a client of hers as well, referred me to her. and I have been going to her for almost a year. Although I am generally happy with my hair, she does a good job and uses good products, so my hair is in the best shape ever but I never have felt totally comfortable in her salon. I feel that I have to walk on eggs when I am there. If ask her to do my hair a certain way, she often questions me as to WHY I want my hair like that, and argues with me then does it how she wants it. Also, I work late, so on a couple of occasions I have fallen asleep in the waiting area. When I do, she wakes me up and tells me that I am making her look bad?. WTH? How??? She does nitpicky things like separating me from another client if we are carrying on too long of a conversation. I feel more like a school kid or her daughter rather than a client.Should I fire my hair stylist or stay with her?
tell her and ur friend that she is a ***** and ud rather go to great clips.... even if u really wouldnt... ....Should I fire my hair stylist or stay with her?
i would definatly get a new stylist and i would aslo talk to the manager, no one should act like that
i'm not quite sure whats going on but i'd talk to her about it
I want tell u to fire your stylist but

i will give my opinion and u think about it.First of all you are the client you are spending money if you are unhappy do not continue to spend money with this person.I am a stylist and all that matters to me is my client leaves happy and is comfortable because the way I look at it 1) my clients pay my bills and 2) without clients I will be broke b/c hair is my life and 3) POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE will close your shop down and make others more money b/c that is what your clients will eventually do take their money %26amp; business elsewhere!!! But as a stylist I am not allowed to knock another stylist it's against the stylist rule book I believe you can figure out what to do with that can of worms!
i know exactly how you feel...but the other answers are right....even if you love the way she works with your hair, its not worth it if you feel miserable everytime you need to style it. So my advice....check other places and alternate....so she can notice that you dont come so often....maybe that'll make her realize that her attitude is disturbing you.

ps. take pics of the hair style u want when going to a new place, so they know exactly what you want...
whoa whoa whoa. definatley go to another salon. if you stay with the same salon, it will be even more awkward, so go to an entirely different salon. i would actually call the manager of the salon, and report this, its a wonder she's even aloud to treat PAYING CUSTOMERS like that. you are paying her, and you should feel pampered when getting your hair done, and not anything else. there are a hundred more stylists out there who will do just as good of a job as her AND treat you with the respect that a paying customer deserves.

    goodluck!:)
Just stop going to her, you don't have to ';fire her'; find a new one.
no u should stay with her
    yah fire her ***
Just an Idea... Shop around...till you find

another shop and stylist. When you find a

shop you are comfortable with, you may need to try out 2or 3 stylist at the same shop. If you go into the salon for the first time you may come back and try it again and/or you may not....like a resturaunt?

Do you try it again if you had bad service?

Shop around till your comfortable, if your not....the stylist should feel that.
Why all the drama? Go to someone else. There are tons of great stylists around. Ask your friends or at the office. If you see someone on the street with hair like yours, and you like the style, ask them who they go to. Remember, you are paying her, not the other way around.
FIRE a hair stylist does what she is told and shuts up
Honey, You deserve respect when it comes to you parting with your money. Evidently you are uncomfortable staying with this girl, but I know how hard it is to find a stylist that does your hair the way you like it without waiting for it to grow out and look good. Be strong, and try another salon. One of the answers mentioned that you find someones hair that you like, and ask them where they would recommend. Now if you do this, make sure the person that you ask where they got their hair done at, has the same type of hair. Thin, thick, straight, or curly. It will make a difference with your new stylist. Good Luck and run for the hills!
I would talk to the manager about her and then tell the manager that you'll be going somewhere else...
i would get a new stylist! im sure shes not the only person in the world wh can keep your hair looking good! you shouldnt have to feel uncomfortable in her salon. a salon is a happy place where you should be comfortable.
Absolutely go someplace else....no matter how good your hair looks, you should never be uneasy about who works with your hair - the Bible says a woman's hair is her crowning glory! If the idea of going to your stylist gives you a headache or stresses you, it is definitely time for a change! You should also should be able to trust what she is telling you - you should be comfortable talking to your stylist about what you want and if she disagrees with you, she should be able to communicate it to you in such a way that you are not offended....talk to your friends and get some suggestions about a new stylist!
Since you are the one paying her, if you're not satisfied with how she's treating you then you should just go to someone else. She seems like she has a bit of an attitude =/

I hate it also when my hair stylist doesn't do my hair the way I want it.

It really depends on whether you like how good she does your hair or you're more bothered with feeling uncomfortable.
I guess I would find someone else to do my hair, it's very important to feel comfortable with your stylist and to have her listen to your needs, but be truthful with you if she feels something won't really look good on you.
when you go to a salon to get your hair done, you want that spa feeling where you feel like you don't have to lift a fingure. if she makes you feel uncomfortable i would leave her and go somewhere else that makes you wanna go to their salon. i wish you the best of luck!! : )

    鈾ly
well give her some time if she continues with the same act then fire her and find a better hairstylest
I'd find a new one. You're paying her to do YOUR hair. If she wants it done a certain way, she can do her own hair like that. Also, that attitude is ridiculous. If you'd done something to provoke it, I could understand it from time to time, but it doesn't seem to me like you're deserving of her crankiness. Go find yourself somebody new!
    Change your hairdresser quick smart.

I used to feel uncomfortable with a previous stylist, so I gave her the flick.

I now go to a husband and wife team, who have plenty of laughts going on in the salon, and also they tell their little stories about their holidays, so it's not all one sided.

Occasionally I doze off in the chair, whilst waiting for a tint, because I am relaxed with them, and also they do wonderful head massages when they wash my hair.

Don't feel in the least bit guilty, when you dump her/him, as it will be a load off your mind, I know it was with me. Good luck with your new hairdresser, whoever it may be.

Who are better hair stylist? Men or women? And give an example for each to explain your reasoning?

10 points to best answer.Who are better hair stylist? Men or women? And give an example for each to explain your reasoning?
I am a female and I personally like having a man style my hair more than a girl.

When it comes to hair cutting the best hair cuts I ever had were from a guy stylist that I went to for years until he quit cutting hair. He was able to see what I wanted and do my hair that way. At the same time though he was able to tell me what guys would think about the style.

When it comes to having my hair styled for formal events I prefer a girl though because they understand that I want my hair to look pretty and sophisticated.

Also, when Mike (the guy I used to have cut my hair) cut my hair he did not try to make small chat with me, until after he had cut my hair a few times. I am sorry but if it is the first time you have cut my hair I don't want to talk about school and work with you as if I know you. Mike did not ask questions until I started coming in more often. Therefore the hair cut and style was more enjoyable.Who are better hair stylist? Men or women? And give an example for each to explain your reasoning?
I have been to TONS of stylists here in Houston, and I'd have to say that the best stylists were the men. Why? I do not know, but they really seemed to know exactly what i wanted and really paid better attention to detail, overall. They also don;t try to act as fake and overfriendly as women tend to do. Just give me a glass of wine, a vogue magazine, and let me listen the chit-chat around me for a bit. If men have something to talk about and share, then they share. If not, then they don't talk. Simple as that. :^)

  • My hair stylist is going to be coloring my hair and told me to set aside three hours of the day when?

I call to make the appointment. If I am going to be taking up three hours of his day with a coloring that will cost almost three hundred dollars, how much should I tip him? I feel bad taking up that much of his day and I want to tip him properly.? HELPMy hair stylist is going to be coloring my hair and told me to set aside three hours of the day when?
yikes! do you really want to pay that much?!?

i don't usually get my hair colored, but i always thought it took more like 1.5 hrs for a cut and color.

sounds like this is a crazy expensive salon. but that is up to you, if you want to go there or not.

as for tipping, 15-20% is a good amount. so if it really costs that much, $45-60 would probably be appropriate. yikes!!! that tip is enough to cover the service at a more average salon!!My hair stylist is going to be coloring my hair and told me to set aside three hours of the day when?
    I usually do 15% so about $45 to $50
FIRST OF ALL, IF I WAS A MOVIE ACTOR I WOULD NEVER SPEND $300.00 DOLLARS ON A HAIR COLORING JOB WHEN I CAN DO IT MYSELF , FOR NO MORE THAN $5.00

I ONLY SPEND $130.00 ON ANY HAIR CARE AND THATS A LIMIT!!

IF YOU ARE GOING TO SPEND $300.00 , THEY WOULD NOT GET TIPPED NO MORE $5.00 , SORRY BUT THATS A WAY , I SEE THINGS
There is no rule that says that you have to tip your hairstylist. Keep in mind that if he is employed by the salon he is probably going to be paid 50% of your final ticket. If he is booth renting, or owns the salon, he is keeping all of the money.

That said, to tip your hairstylist has become somewhat expected, but unlike the food and beverage industry that uses the 15% formula, no formula has been customized for the salon industry.

Of course you want good rapport with your hairstylist, so I do recommend a tip if the service he provides meets or even exceeds your expectations.

In checking our records in the salon I find 10% is the average tip. Waiters don't make any money off of your dinner, but hairstylists do make money off of your service, that is why the tip percent is less.

Bottom line, if you are happy with the service, tip what you can afford and what you are comfortable with. If you really want to make his day, also ask him for some of his business cards to pass out to your friends. He may even have some type of rewards program for new clients that you refer.
If you wanted to give him 15%, then give him $45. HIH!
if you do it like this:

    15% of 300 - $45

or since its going to take 3hrs

    20% of 300 - 60
think of it this way. he is working there cuz he wants to, so dont feel bad. yur paying him 300 dollars, so maybe like 20-50 wil do because anything higher could be over doing it.

Would anyone know a hair-stylist that can handle african american hair in winnipeg?

im re-posting my question cuz apparently the last one was racist...

i just moved in from vancouver into winnipeg, and i was wondering if anyone knew any hairstylists that can handle african american hair..fades and stuff..again preferablly near the university of manitoba...Would anyone know a hair-stylist that can handle african american hair in winnipeg?
There are a few options in Winnipeg. The Bay at Polo Park has a stylist named Colleen who can work with black hair, there is a salon downtown called Lola's which primarily deals with black hair, and there is a place called Society downtown that has a stylist named Praise that can deal with black hair. There is also a place called Diversity Hair studio. I've never been there, but they have come highly recommended. I wish I had had someone to tell me about these places when I first moved to Winnipeg! Sadly, none of them are near U of M, but they're probably your best bets! Good luck, and welcome to Winnipeg!

What is the proper amount to tip a hair stylist? How much to tip a hair stylist?
20$ to 30$ if they make your life 10 times better with a good hair cut if they destroy your hair then give them 5 %26amp; never come back :)How much to tip a hair stylist?
5 dollars. Depending on how much she did. If it is an updo for like prom or homecoming I tip 5. If it is color and cut more like 10 or 15 dollars. Because color and cut takes awhile. Also because I really love my hair stylist. :D
$15 to $30 depending on the salon what they do and how well you like it

What are you looking for in a hair stylist?

Someone who is astute to all the needs of the client.

For instance, I personally do not care for chit-chat. When asked what I do for a living or whether I have a boyfriend or husband, I try to answer as tersely as possible. I'd like a hairstylist to pick up on the fact that I really just want to relax and not have to engage in conversation unless it's a question about my hair or something relevant.

I think it's good when a stylist makes a recommendation for a new hairstyle or haircut but equally as important to see how that suggestion is received. If a person seems uninterested, drop the subject immediately. However, if she (and of course, it could be he) asks questions about maintenance and such, then perhaps the client is more willing to try something different.

Some clients are very conservative when it comes to their hair, and some are very carefree and daring. A good stylist knows how to ';read'; his or her clients to give the best service possible. We're all different and have different needs and desires -- just like you! What are you looking for in a hair stylist?

take the picture back to the stylistHow do i tell the hair stylist to cut my hair this way?
Well if you showed them a picture they should have been able to cut it like the picture. Next time set up a consultation before your cut to make sure what you want is clear. If that doesnt work maybe consider another stylist.
tell them you want your hair razored w/ short layers.

MAKE SURE YOU TELL THEM TO KEEP THE LENGTH THOUGH!

i wanted the same thing as you and they cut my hair short w/ short layers instead of long w/ short layers :[

How much should I tip my hair stylist? I usually pay between 45 to 50 dollars per visit?

I would give her a Five or ten if you really think she does a great job!!! Good ones are really hard to find and they love to feel appreciated!! Also ask if she has a card so you can recommend her to your friends. Or bring in a goody for the salon when you go!!! THis will ensure that she remembers you!!! BlessingsHow much should I tip my hair stylist? I usually pay between 45 to 50 dollars per visit?
I would say 8 bucks to 10 depending if they did a great job..

If its your usual person a bigger tip at the holidays! How much should I tip my hair stylist? I usually pay between 45 to 50 dollars per visit?
It is customary to tip 15-20% for any and all service professionals who do a good job. To tip less than that, if they did a good job, in my opinion, would insulting. So $9-$10 in your case would be appropriate.
10-15% is sufficient. If you feel like he/she deserves more, or if the stylist went over and above the call of duty (saved your hair disaster) then by all means tip 20-25%.
6.75-7.50 is 15% of the prices you gave above.
    $5 To $10
    give your hairstylist a bj

    he'll thank you for it
    $10.00 would be appropriate.
You should tip between 15-20% of the bill depending on how satisfied you are and how much time was needed. (i.e a trim vs. a completely new hair style)

If an assistant washes your hair, he/she should get $1-2.
I give $10 for that price and more if its a perm.
$10-$15 would be a good tip. I used to pay $45 every two weeks and I gave her $10 each time. It also depends on how much you like the outcome. When she did an extraordinary job, I gave more. If she did an ok job, I stuck with my usual $10. Good Luck!
    Not more than 10$
    I would tip about $7-10.
you are paying her $45-$50 for doing a service, why would you give her extra money??? I bet she is making a lot more an hour than you are.
ten bucks - but only if the stylist did a good job!
