Do u need to tip a hair stylist even if she is the owner?

i went to a hair stylist and she owns the salon with her husband. my mom and older sister said that i didn't need to tip her. they said you only tip workers not the owners. but my 2 others sisters disagreed. who is right? i tiped her anyway cuz i was embarrassed. did i do the right thing?Do u need to tip a hair stylist even if she is the owner?
If you like the hair cut you should tip the stylist. Despite what most people believe (based on the price of salon services), most hairstylists do NOT make a lot of money and it's VERY hard work. Owners pay rent on the building, water, mega hydro, hair products (salon quality is expensive even wholesale), tools (also expensive and don't last that long), employee wages etc.,etc. They work hard for every cent they make so if you like their work you should definitely tip them!Do u need to tip a hair stylist even if she is the owner?
everyone appreciates a tip in the service industry. most people in the service industry really depend on their tips to make ends meet. but on that note salon owners usually do pretty good for themselves. depending on the salon, they take home what they make (minus rent and etc) and a percent of their other stylists earnings or rent money from the stylists.

the people really waiting on tips is the other stylists and assistants.

all in all its a service industry. did you aoppreciate the service enough to tip...

and speaking from an assistants point of view. it REALLY sucks when I work really hard doing all the ';dirty'; jobs like color and chemical services and treatments and shampoos and massage and ordering your food and bringing you the newest mags in the salon. and you run out of the salon with averted eyes, because you just paid $150 for your hair and you can't give a 5 for the person who actually made your hair look good. or you leave a big fat tip in the stylists hands. because from my experience. if you didn't put it in my hand i'm never going to see it.

i guess i'm feeling resentful today. ^__^
That is the dumbest thing I have ever herd, so many people say dumb crap and dont know what the hell they are talking about. Of COURSE if she did work on your hair, you should give her a tip. Afterall, she is doing the work of running the place, and if shes actually out there doing peoples hair too then yeah she deserves a tip. Afterall, if it wasn't for her that place wouldnt be there and either would be the employees.
YES! Tip her they love it and when you go back she will be extra nice (meaning a little extra care). You want the person that you are trusting with your hair to love working on it, and love you. Ive always had great experiences when i tip and the hairdressers are always accomodating to last minute situations. You scratch there backs and they will scratch yours.
If I were you, Iwould because if you were pleased with your hair, I think the person who did it should get the privilage of the tip, regardless of who that person is!!

Hope my advice helped. xxx
yeah, my stylist also owns the salon and I tip her 20% I also give her an extra 5 when she does my children's hair because she doesn't charge me for just giving them a trim
my hair stylist owns the salon and my mom asked his wife and she said no dont tip him
You don't have to, but if you do she will probably appreciate it. I myself would give like 10% (normally I leave 20%)
ya i think you shoulkd of tipped her

and it was nice to do
did she do a good job?

I fyou really like what they've done go for it.

If it's just O.K or less, don't bother!
